Nigeria: A Country Headed in the Right Direction Imagine throwing several different groups of people, all of whom have nothing in common and all of whom have different beliefs and follow different morals and ideals, and forming one nation out of them. Now, imagine trying to govern this nation as one cohesive unit. This is exactly what Great Britain tried to do in the formation of Nigeria over a period of time spanning from the days of the slave trade until October 1, 1960, when Nigeria eventually became a self-governing nation. Britain first became interested in West Africa because of trade, and for the most part, slave trade. Britain had been looking for ways to better colonize the Americas and fill the demand for labor there,†¦show more content†¦These missionaries only increased the diversity among the Nigerians. In 1954, the differences of opinion among the Nigerians concerning the political evolution of the country resulted in the formation of the federal system that composed of three regions: Northern, Eastern, and Western. Each of these regions were dominated by their own ethnic group. The Hausa-Fulani dominated the north; the Yoruba dominated the west; the Igbo dominated the east. In 1957, the Eastern and Western Regions were granted self-government, and the Northern Region was granted self-government in 1959. Then, on October 1, 1960, the three regions decided it was time to come to independence as a single country. The three regions survived the first couple of years, but after that, things began moving downhill. Conflict in the Western Region had torn apart the ruling coalition there. During the next year, what little trust that existed between the three regions was destroyed because of suspicions about the national consensus. In 1965, law and order was completely demolished over election-related fraud and violence. The military ended the First Republic in a coup in January 1966. When the three regions had formed, they had already had their own different views on how a successful government worked. Now, on top of that, they had to incorporate the Western ideas that the Europeans had left behind. Being Martin Luther King Jr. and having such a voice for the people that surround you there isn’t enough being done to create great impacts on those who disagree with you and your tactics. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is about evil and the duality of peoples personalities. To show this I will focus on Stevensons use of characterization, setting, historical, social and cultural context, settings, symbols and language. Not by luck or sheer investigation, I have noticed something that everyone shares in common guys and girls alike, their personal style of clothing in reflection of their choose in music. I am not talking about or brand names or the clothes make the man, but that of the general appearance of how the individual displays themselves to the world around them. Over the generations people have been influenced greatly by the music that they enjoy. By conscious decisions or not, people tend to dress to the type of music that they enjoy most. Dress and Music are linked by the way of how the individual walks, carries themselves, and their general attitude. As I sit placing trying to place people with their taste in music, I have noticed that the attire of the individual somewhat perceives my notions. This notion is often accurate but not decisive. There are many instances that this does not hold true. People are defined who they are and what they are at any given moment and the music that they represent are just a rhythm away. Country MusicThe first thing that I notice about the people is the way that they are dressed. People usually wearing the tight jeans, boots and cowboy hats generally fall within the country music. This may not always be the case. Country music fans have a pride in their stride or a dip in their hip that makes the movement look like someone doing a two-step. The person is generally is walking with a jovial stride. The persona, in which this individual gives off, will indicate a modest, somewhat insecure, but fun loving person.
